Sharron Angle, Republican candidate for the U.S. Senate, proved victorious in GOP straw poll results held during the “Great 2010 GOP Debate” on April 30 at the Orleans Showroom in Las Vegas. The debate, moderated by radio talk host Heidi Harris, drew a crowd of approximately 800 people in which 595 attendees cast ballots.
The announcement came on Monday when Harris congratulated Angle during her radio program broadcast in Las Vegas.
Harris asked Angle how she was able to have “jumped so far ahead” even though her opponents had been advertising much longer. “People who are engaged…and who have become informed voters know about my record; they know that they can count on me. It’s not just reading my lips, it’s reading my record,” Angle answered Harris.
Angle spokesperson Jerry Stacy said the senatorial race to “butt” Reid from office was becoming more about deciding on which GOP candidate is better positioned to defeat Reid and be genuinely sincere about representing the citizens of Nevada. “You put all these candidates on the same stage together, and Mrs. Angle will come out on top each time. It’s a barometer of who Nevadans view to be the best candidate they trust,” Stacy said, noting that Angle has been consistently triumphant in straw poll victories throughout the state, including the “Triple Crown” which encompasses voter-rich Clark, Washoe and Elko counties.
Poll results from the 595 ballots cast were as follows: Sharron Angle–27.1 percent, Danny Tarkanian–24.9 percent, John Chachas–21.3 percent, Sue Lowden–16.1 percent, Chad Christensen–10.6 percent.
