Opinion: Harry Reid campaign launches fact check site to combat false Republican attacks

Date:

SUBMITTED RELEASE FROM FRIENDS FOR HARRY REID

Sen. Harry Reid’s campaign today launched a new Web page dedicated to exposing the ongoing misleading attacks being launched at the Nevada Senator. The site, harryreid.com/factcheck, goes after false attacks like Sue Lowden’s claim in Sunday’s Review-Journal that Sen. Reid “built nothing” and “I did.”

In reality, Sen. Reid has brought home hundreds of millions of dollars to Nevada to build roads, schools, hospitals and other vital public works projects that have created jobs and made Nevada a better place to live, work and raise a family. This includes hundreds of millions of dollars to create good-paying clean energy jobs in Nevada, including the transmission line that will be built between northern and southern Nevada. He also brought home $10 million to build an arsenic treatment center in Fallon and $540 million to build the Southern Nevada Veterans Hospital. Sen. Reid, the majority leader of the Senate, also helped save more than 20,000 jobs at City Center at a time when the project’s financing was at risk. And those accomplishments barely scratch the surface.

“Absent of any ideas to create jobs and get Nevada’s economy moving again, Sen. Reid’s opponents, aided by the Las Vegas Review-Journal, are relying on false attacks to undermine Sen. Reid’s record of delivering for Nevada. This site gives us an opportunity to set the record straight by giving voters the facts,” said Kelly Steele, communications director for Friends for Harry Reid.

“This site will be an essential tool for those distorting or lying about Sen. Reid’s record and rooting for Nevada’s failure to be held accountable. It will also empower our grassroots supporters statewide to swiftly set the record straight by arming them with the most powerful weapon available to counter Republican smears: the truth.”
