SUBMITTED NEWS RELEASE

aces-300x233-4592662-2201708The inaugural exhibition game between the Reno Aces and University of Nevada Tuesday night at Aces Ballpark ended in an 11-1 Aces victory and a donation of $15,000 to the University of Nevada’s Dugout Club.

Thanks to a crowd of 3,631, the Silver City Challenge raised $15,000 for the University of Nevada’s Dugout Club, which directly benefits the Wolf Pack baseball program. Both Aces manager Brett Butler and Nevada head coach Gary Powers spoke to the crowd before the game, and were optimistic that the Silver City Challenge would return to Reno in 2011.

Aces pitchers threw to both teams in the eight-inning exhibition, with major league veterans Billy Buckner and Kris Benson toeing the slab for the Aces and Wolf Pack, respectively. Buckner threw five innings in his final tune-up for the Pacific Coast League season, while Benson tossed four frames for the Wolf Pack. All seven Aces relievers got an inning of work as well.

The Aces begin the 144-game Pacific Coast League season Thursday night at Aces Ballpark, as they play host to the Fresno Grizzlies, Triple-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants. Game time on Thursday night is 6:05 p.m., with Friday and Saturday’s contests set to begin at 7:05 p.m. The Aces round out the series with Fresno at 1:05 p.m. on Sunday, before welcoming the Salt Lake Bees next Monday through Thursday night in Reno.

Very few tickets remain for Thursday’s Opening Day, and limited tickets are still on sale for the remainder of Opening Weekend. Tickets may be purchased at the Aces Ballpark Box Office, by calling (775) 334-7000 or visiting www.RenoAces.com. Fans are encouraged to pick-up their seats quickly, especially for Opening Weekend.
