SUBMITTED NEWS RELEASE

The Reno Rodeo Foundation awarded a generous grant to Horses for the Spirit on March 18, 2010 to purchase an Infrared Portable Heater for their classroom, graduation day t-shirts for the children who participate in their programs and funds for graduation day and program supplies.

“Horses for the Spirit is really grateful for receiving support from the Reno Rodeo Foundation the last two years,” says Deb Conrad, executive director pro tem. “The foundation does unbelievable things for kids in our community and we’re proud to be a part of that.”

Horses for the Spirit is a 501(c)3 public charity dedicated to offering Equine Assisted Learning programs to youth in Washoe County.

Horses for the Spirit’s programs have been developed to teach positive life and social skills to kids generally between the ages 12 and 19. Although the target audience is primarily kids at risk of failing in traditional settings, it is their dream to serve all kids in our community who have a desire to or need to be in one of our programs.

Horses are an essential part of the teaching team in Equine Assisted Learning and Horses for the Spirit uses natural horsemanship as the vehicle for teaching. The goal is that the graduates of the programs have acquired skills in areas such as leadership, teamwork, problem solving, managing behavior and more.

Horses for the Spirit was founded in 2005 and has served the McGee Center, Social Services, Children’s Cabinet, Tahoe Women’s Services and more. Horses for the Spirit’s programs are conducted in the North Valleys about one mile from the Lemmon Drive exit off of Hwy 395.
