The Reno Bighorns have acquired former Phoenix Suns guard D.J. Strawberry and 6-6 forward DeWitt Scott, the organization announced today.

Strawberry and Scott are expected to be in uniform for tonight’s game against the Utah Flash. Strawberry will wear No. 23, while Scott will wear No. 14. To make room on the roster, Reno has waived guards Majic Dorsey and Dave Noel, both due to injury.

The 6-foot, 5-inch Strawberry was the 59th overall selection in the 2007 NBA Draft by the Phoenix Suns. He would go on to split the 2007-08 season between Phoenix and Albuquerque of the NBA D-League. He played in 34 games for the Suns that season, averaging 2.2 points and 0.9 assists.

Strawberry was later traded to Houston, though he never appeared in a game with the Rockets. His latest playing stint came in Italy with Fortitudo Bologna.

Strawberry enjoyed a standout career at the University of Maryland, finishing his senior season as a second-team All-Atlantic Coast Conference selection for the Terrapins.

Scott began the 2009-10 season with the NBA D-League’s Fort Wayne Mad Ants, prior to his release last week. Scott averaged 3.3 points, 1.2 boards and 0.4 assists per game in Fort Wayne.

Scott starred at Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne before joining the Mad Ants last season, where he scored 7.9 points per game, making 12 starts in 49 games.

Coming up, the Bighorns return home tonight for a two-game weekend series with the Flash. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m. on Saturday, and the Bighorns will celebrate Breast Cancer Awareness Night in the Reno Events Center. Tickets are on-sale now at www.RenoBighorns.com, the Reno Events Center Box Office, Silver Legacy Box Office, or by visiting any Northern Nevada Ticketmaster location or Web site.
