LAS VEGAS–Sam Lieberman, chairman of the Nevada State Democratic Party, made the following statement today on the passage of the Travel Promotion Act:
“We want to thank Sen. Reid for his leadership in passing the Travel Promotion Act, which tourism industry leaders say will create thousands of jobs in Nevada. This bill will be a crucial shot in the arm for the American tourism industry, which has lost 441,000 jobs in the last decade while the global tourism industry grew.
“And it will be a huge boon to Nevada, whose tourism industry has suffered in this down economy, and will create as many as 6,000 jobs here.
“The act will create a Travel Promotion office that will advertise our tourism industry to international tourist and educate them about traveling to our country, like the Las Vegas Convention and Visitor Authority does for Las Vegas. And best of all it will cost taxpayers nothing.
“This is just the latest effort by Sen. Reid to not only promote Nevada’s tourism industry, but America’s tourism industry, and create much-needed jobs across the country.”
