SUBMITTED NEWS RELEASE
RENO, NV – Nationwide, tens of thousands have made deposits and are on waiting lists for the all electric 2010 Nissan LEAF (a battery electric vehicle or BEV), the 2011 Chevy Volt (an extended range electric vehicle or EREV) as well as a myriad of other xEV offerings from large automakers to start-ups.
But, Reno’s Tom Wicker got tried of waiting and decided to build his own long-range BEV. The “SwiftE,” an electric conversion of a 2001 Suzuki Swift, is able to travel up to 100 miles on a single charge. Wicker not only built his own EV, but the SwiftE is a truly zero emissions vehicle: he charges the car from his roof top solar photovoltaic system. Tom drives to work, Carson City, and all over Northern Nevada on 100 percent sunlight!
“It’s great fun driving the electric Swift, convenient to recharge in our garage at night, I wake up every morning with a “full tank,” and I don’t pay attention to gas prices anymore!” said Tom Wicker.
At the February meeting of the Electric Auto Association of Northern Nevada (EAANN) local electrical engineer and EV conversion expert, Tom Wicker, will introduce his recently converted, all electric – zero emissions – 2001 Suzuki Swift.
“Tom’s new conversion demonstrates that old dirty cars may be recycled into clean electric cars that are able to meet most people’s daily commuting requirements,” said Bob Tregilus the group’s co-chair.
The EAANN now meet all All Points Towing at 2801-B Vassar Street. Thanks to All Points Towing we will be able to bring Tom’s new EV conversion inside their shop for better viewing as Tom gives EAANN members the details about his EV project.
“This is an opportunity for All Points Towing to do our part to help develop and promote EV technology in Northern Nevada. We have the facilities, equipment, and technical know how and we hope to put it to use in this emerging new transportation technology,” said Skip Gosser of All Points Towing. We’re also looking into the possibilities of providing one of the first public charging stations in the Reno area,” Gosser added.
