ELY, Nev. — Visitors to this year’s “White Pine Fire and Ice Show” can expect ice bowling, snow sculptures, fireworks displays and booming cannon blasts as part of a weekend of family friendly events in the community of Ely and at Cave Lake State Park.

From January 16-17, 2010, the annual snow-sculpting competition at Cave Lake has been again named a “Top 100 Event” this year by the American Bus Association and promises to be a year to remember.

Highlights of this year’s event include:

  • Fireworks shot from a train traveling through downtown Ely
  • Ice fishing
  • Ice bowling with two bowling alleys
  • An ice putting “green”
  • Ice skating
  • Random blasts from a cannon
  • A fireworks display with 75 simultaneous shots to conclude the event.

Some events are dependent on weather conditions. More than $1,750 in prizes will be awarded for the top snow sculptures. Visitors are encouraged to make hotel reservations early, as Ely hotels usually fill up for the weekend of the event.

To participate in the snow sculpture competition and for more information contact Steve Gray at [email protected] or 800-496-9350.

The White Pine Fire and Ice Show is put on in cooperation with and sponsored by the White Pine County Tourism and Recreation Board, the Nevada Commission on Tourism, Ely Energy Center and the Nevada Division of State Parks.
