GOVERNOR’S OFFICE NEWS RELEASE:
CARSON CITY — Governor Jim Gibbons has ordered the flag atop the Capitol in Carson City and the flag in front of the Grant Sawyer Building in Las Vegas to be flown at half-staff on Saturday October 17, 2009 to honor United States Army Private First Class Kevin Thomson. Pfc. Thomson was killed during an attack on his unit in Afghanistan on October 3, 2009. Pfc. Thomson was a member of the 61st Armored Cavalry Regiment based in Fort Carson, Colorado.
Kevin Thomson attended high school in Reno and joined the United States Army in 2008. Thomson’s mother lives in Reno. Services for Thomson are planned for Saturday at 11 a.m. at Mountain View Mortuary, then burial at 2:30 p.m. at the Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Fernley.
“Our Nation and our State are grateful for the sacrifice made by Pfc. Kevin Thomson,” Governor Jim Gibbons said, “I want to extend my deepest condolences to Kevin’s family and friends.”
