TMWA announces Water-Efficient Landscape Awards winners

cuddy5-1023638-8327821Winners of Truckee Meadows Water Authority’s 2009 Water-Efficient Landscape Awards have been announced. Winners in the Design by Homeowner category are first place, Chuck and Bobbie Cuddy; second place, Martha McRae; and third place, Chris Ault, Jr., all of Reno.

1st place Design by Professional: Diane and John Machen with Landscape SystemsDesign by Professional winners are first place, Diane and John Machen with Landscape Systems; second place, Corey and Karla Solferino with Reno Lawn and Landscape; and third place, Dale and Evelyn Miller with Sierra Nevada Landscapes and Rachel Hart of ARTemesia Landscape Architecture. All are in Reno.

“We applaud these residents who have improved their landscapes in order to make them more water-efficient,” Lora Richards, TMWA Administrator of Conservation and Community Education programs, said. “The entries are beautiful, and many of the homeowners mention how they’ve been able to substantially lower their water bills.” The winners, who are all TMWA customers, received hundreds of dollars in prizes donated from community sponsors.

Judges included Richards, Jason Perry of Western Turf & Hardscapes, Del Aguilar of All Seasons Lawn and Landscape and Scott Gescheider of Moana Nursery. Entries were evaluated on aesthetics, efficient irrigation systems, plant selection and mulches.
