Review: The Last Crumb

Date:

I want The Last Crumb to be a success, but I’m afraid it’s too good to be true.

I got a tip about this new south Reno bakery and sandwich shop from a friend yesterday and tried it for lunch today. As he promised, “they have really good sandwiches and pastries, their service is great, and their pricing is very reasonable.”

They say everything is baked fresh every morning. I can’t vouch for that, but the sandwiches they made for us today–one on a baguette and the other on challah–were perfectly fresh. They even used fresh turkey, which I never expect at sandwich shops. They will make breakfast sandwiches to order, too. Fresh fruit smoothies are another tempting offering.

As for the prices, sandwiches and salads (including smoked salmon, turkey cobb, pear and goat cheese, Greek and more) are $3.95 each. Fresh fruit salads are $1.25. Coffee, bottled drinks and other beverages are $1.50. Prices for pastries (more than a dozen breads, cookies, sweet rolls, bagels and desserts) range from 30 cents each for cookies to $3 each for small cakes. Today they had huge brownies for 75 cents.

The people are so nice, the food is so good and the prices are so much lower than elsewhere I worry that they’re not charging enough to stay in business. I’d love to be proved wrong.

The Last Crumb is at 9333 Double R Boulevard in the former Icebox Kitchen location. The owner, Jack Greenspan, also offers catering at 851-3335.
