Nevada volleyball falls in three sets at Sacramento State


image001-2827079-6313501The University of Nevada (4-9) volleyball team completed a four-match road swing with a 3-0 loss to Sacramento State at Colberg Court in Sacramento, Calif. tonight. The Wolf Pack lost by scores of 15-25, 13-25 and 15-25 leaving the squad 4-9 on the season. With the victory the Hornets improved to 8-6 on the year.

The Hornets put together a 6-0 run to break a 6-6 tie in the first set on the way to the 25-15 victory. The Pack struggled hitting .114 in the first frame while Sac State hit .200.

Sac State scored the first six points of set two and was never challenged in winning 25-13. Nevada’s attack percentage slipped to .086 while the Hornets had their best hitting set of the match at .387.

Nevada held a 3-0 advantage in set three but the Hornets tied the score at 10-10 then scored five unanswered points to take command on the way to the 25-15 win and 3-0 match victory. The Pack’s offensive struggles continued as they hit .091 while the Hornets posted a .286 attack percentage in the final set.

Junior Kylie Harrington topped the Pack for the 11th time this season with her seven kills in the match and added 10 digs. Setter Sonnie Sei dished out 10 assists in the match while Nicole Link finished with 13 digs.

Janelle Currey and Desiree Hoyum led the Hornets with 15 and 13 kills respectively. Setter Melissa Melcher finished with a match-high 31 assists. Hoyum had 21 digs to post a double-double while Breanne Menees added 19.

The Pack hit .096 for the match compared to .283 for Sac State. Nevada totaled seven blocks while the Hornets had four. Junior Lindsay Baldwin tallied a match-high six blocks on the night.

Nevada begins Western Athletic Conference on play on Saturday night hosting Fresno State at 7:00 p.m.
