Date:

News release from Nevada Museum of Art:

An Art Bites event, “Character Sketches: Novelist Christopher Coake on Literary Portraits” will be presented at the Nevada Museum of Art on Friday, Aug. 28, from noon to 12:30 p.m. Coake, a Reno-based novelist and assistant professor of English at the University of Nevada, Reno, will lead an intimate discussion in the feature gallery. As part of the continuing education offerings provided by the museum, Coake will read passages from his current novel as guests are surrounded by the portraits included in Faces: Chuck Close and Contemporary Portraiture.

Coake was awarded a PEN/Robert Bingham Fellowship award for his first story collection We’re In Trouble in 2006 and named a Best Young American Novelist 2007 by the prestigious literary journal GRANTA. His short fiction has appeared in The Gettysburg Review, The Southern Review, Epoch, and Five Points and has been anthologized in The Best American Mystery Stories 2004.

Art Bites give attendees the opportunity to experience an informal and intimate introduction to works in the galleries over a short half-hour dialogue. The cost of $5/$4 museum members includes folding stool for the first 30 guests. The Art Bites series is supported in part by the Gabelli Foundation.
