REVIEW: First Friday with the Comedy Collective

On the first Friday of every month, the Comedy Collective takes over the Pioneer Underground for an evening of hilarious improv. This was my first time going to an improv show, so I wasn’t sure what was going to happen. I was expecting cheesy jokes and awkward moments.

The performance that night went above and beyond all expectations.
Everyone was laughing and having a great time. The Comedy Collective did games, skits, and songs based off of audience feedback. It was highly interactive, which made for random and off-the-wall scenarios for the group to try to play out. Sometimes, an audience member was even called on stage.

The evening was simply brilliant. It was astounding how quick the Comedy Collective could conjure up witty responses. The group is talented on multiple levels. The acting was transformative, the singing was impressive, and the jokes were hilarious.

I was suspicious of how rehearsed the performance was due to the amazing response-time. However, the group told me they meet once a month to refamiliarize themselves with the improv games and rely on the audience for the rest of their show. This made the night that much more impressive to me.

The Comedy Collective can be booked for private parties and holds improv workshops, but the best way to see them is at the Pioneer Underground on every First Friday. Mark your calendars now! You won’t want to miss next month.
