I’ll make this short and sweet (although some of you may consider it to be short and sour).
The recent and abrupt cancellation of Roseanne Barr’s highly popular television series is a direct slap in the face and an overt condemnation of Donald Trump’s base.
His entire career has been offensive to many who observed his rise, and it’s become exponentially more difficult to endure since he’s moved into the White House.
Many of us — this columnist included — feel that his brash and abrasive approach to governance has not only appealed to the lowest white trash in America, it has also emboldened them to come out of the shadows and scream their racist, sexist and xenophobic feelings toward the sky.
They love Trump’s Muslim ban and his ridiculous (and symbolic) border wall and have celebrated both with zeal.
Today, I say thank you and congratulations to Disney, which owns ABC, for their swift and decisive decision to pull one of television’s highest-rated shows off the air.
Perhaps this will cause that portion of the American populace who agreed with Roseanne’s racist sentiments to reflect and reconsider their outlook.
But I’m not going to count on that.
