Story and Photos by Brianna Sullivan

The Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows hosted their annual Barrels & Bites event Friday, Nov. 3 at the Peppermill. The event featured hors d’oeuvres, entrees, and elegant desserts from various restaurants and distributors combined with beer and more than 100 themed alcohol and spirit booths with over 500 wines from around the world. The spirits included ultra-smooth whiskies, premium vodka, gin, rum, tequila, and specialty cocktails.

The silent and live auction benefited the Boys & Girls Club and included items like culinary trips, cultural experiences, VIP winery visits, and collectible wines. As a bonus, all ticket holders were entered into a drawing to win a free car. Additionally, ticket holders were able to dance the night away after the event with free admission to the Peppermill’s Edge Nightclub.

Another way to get a ticket was to participate in Yelp®’s Great Reno Whiskey Hunt. Six restaurant locations served up a special small plate using their featured whiskey as an ingredient and one bar had a unique whiskey flight! After completing a “dish and a dram” or flight at each location, you were given a letter. If you collected all seven letters to spell the word, “w-h-i-s-k-e-y” you were given a free ticket to Barrels & Bites.
