Groups Gather to ‘Take a Knee,’ Then March at UNR

Date:

Taking their lead from University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) alumna Colin Kaepernick, the Black Caucus of the Washoe Democrats, the UNR Young Dems and the Reno/Sparks NAACP will lead and participate in the “Take A Knee” rally today.

The groups said that they are protesting police brutality and condemning acts of racism on the UNR campus.

The rally begins at 4 p.m. south of Mackay Stadium and will march to the Mathewson IGT Knowledge Center.

Speakers include Patricia Gallimore, president of the Reno/Sparks NAACP, State Senator Julia Ratti, and Black Caucus President, Nnedi Stephens, who will lead the group in “taking a knee.”

“When I first started attending UNR, Colin Kaepernick had just been drafted and the university had plastered his face all over campus in support of him,” Stephens said. “I want him to see that people who care about the issue of racism at his alma mater support him and his cause.”
