The Veterans Association of Real Estate Professionals (VAREP) is sponsoring a free housing conference and expo for veterans, and their families, on Saturday, March 19. The Veterans Housing Summit will run from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the offices of the Reno-Sparks Association of Realtors, 5850 Riggins Court. Though the seminar is free, VAREP is asking attendees to register at http://www.veteranshousingsummit.com/index.php/northern-nevada so they have a better idea of how many people are attending.
“Governor Sandoval has a goal to make Nevada one of the most military- and veteran-friendly states in the country and housing is a big part of that goal,” explained William Process, president of the VAREP Northern Nevada chapter. “These are people who volunteered to put their lives on the line to protect us. Ensuring they have proper housing is the very least we can do.”
At the housing summit, attendees will get information on the benefits they’re entitled to at the federal, state and local level, as well as information on down payment assistance, current market conditions, VA home loans, financial counseling, the preapproval process and other veteran services. They’ll also be able to speak directly with loan officers to get information on their specific situations, complete with credit advice.
In addition to the exhibitor booths, there will be presentations throughout the day:
- 9:00 – 10:00: Registration and free continental breakfast
- 10:00 – 10:10: Pledge and VAREP opening remarks
- 10:10 – 10:45: Local down payment assistance options
- 10:45 – 11:15: The importance of good credit
- 11:15 – 12:00: VA Home Loan Program
- 12:00 – 12:30: The VA home buying process
- 12:30 – 12:45: Closing remarks

The expo is made possible through donations and support by Nevada Housing Division, Reno/Sparks Association of REALTORS® and National Association of REALTORS®.
