DA Announces Maximum Sentence for Drunk Driver Responsible for Youth’s Death

jesse-michael-todd-240x300-5546442-4750382Jesse Michael Todd was sentenced today to a maximum prison term for the June 2014 death of a 16-year-old high school student.

Todd was sentenced to 20 years in prison; he will be eligible for parole after eight years.

A 16-year-old was riding his bike on Seneca Drive June 13, 2014 at about 9 p.m. when he was struck by Todd, who was driving. He ultimately died.

An investigation by the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office found that Todd was driving under the influence of alcohol, was speeding and crossed into the oncoming travel lane. His blood-alcohol level was .159.

The minor had just finished his sophomore year at North Valleys High School. A memorial at the location of the accident is still maintained.

Todd plead guilty to charges against him.

Washoe County District Attorney Chris Hicks said of the case: “This case signifies the dangers and resulting tragedies of drunk driving.  It should serve as a reminder, that it is never a good idea to get behind the wheel after drinking.”
