The City of Reno has organized a crafting event in the Riverwalk District that will allow local artisans to showcase their products this summer between the months of July and August. The crafting event will begin on Wednesday, July 1st, and will run seven days a week from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m., but times and dates may be subject to change.
On June 10th, the Reno City Council asked the City staff to utilize to or more hours defining artist codes and designating an area of First Amendment compliance. This pilot project will offer the staff a sample with which to examine current code and discuss further plans.
The City of Reno’s goal is to allow creative citizens who work in the craft arena such as jewelry, wearable art, and functional ceramics to show and sell their original creations on The Riverwalk during Artown and on into the future.
Crafters must obtain a $15 temporary vendor permit for the season from the Business License Division and the event is first-come-first-served. City staff will mark out at least two dozen locations of the same size for the crafters to locate. Products shown must be original and sold by the crafter.
This project will help the Council to foster a vibrant downtown and allow staff to further engage in the arts and business community.
