London’s Calling: Britpop Night Coming to Lincoln Lounge April 18

Date:

londons-calling-reno-555x416-4876673-6243196Most cities have their own version of the popular Britpop night that proudly celebrates all things musically British, but Reno’s first Brit night, London Calling, is a bit more authentic than most. Hosted by Steve Cook, known as DJ London Steve, Reno’s Britpop night is hosted by a recent transplant from across the pond.

“Reno is such a music obsessed town, I was surprised that it didn’t have a British music night already, so I thought maybe I should do it,” Cook said.

He’s originally from Wolverhampton, home of Led Zeppelin, and lived and DJ’d in London for many years, including playing one memorable gig at the world famous Royal Albert Hall.

“That was quiet a moment,” Cook said. “I remember texting my dad and telling him I was standing where greats like the Beatles, Clapton and Hendrix had all stood. He told me not to give up my day job!’

So what can we expect from Reno’s first Britpop night? It’s a celebration of music from the UK over the years, from the Beatles and the Stones through to the Clash and The Smiths, right up to bands like the XX and the Arctic Monkeys.

“People will have a really authentic British experience without the need for an umbrella,” Cook said.

London Calling is at the Lincoln Lounge beginning at 8 p.m. on Saturday, April 18 and every third Saturday after that. No cover charge.
