Don Mackey: Considered one of the top architect partners in the local construction industry.

Two industry leaders, long-time Sparks planning commissioner Don Mackey and leading risk manager and relentless community philanthropist Nick Rossi, were honored during the Nevada Chapter Associated General Contractors’ 48th annual SIR Awards Banquet, held this month at the Peppermill Resort Hotel in Reno.

An acronym for the AGC motto, “Skill, Integrity and Responsibility,” the SIR Award is given to honor the men, women and organizations that have made outstanding contributions to Nevada, our quality of life and the construction industry.

Originating with the Nevada Chapter in 1967, the SIR Award was adopted by AGC chapters nationwide, including the national office in Washington, D.C.

During the four-plus decades since the award’s inception, Nevada Chapter AGC has given out more than 100 SIR Awards to individuals and firms that embody Skill, Integrity and Responsibility.

Considered one of the top architect partners in the local construction industry, Don Mackey was instrumental in guiding the growth and expansion of Sparks into the Wingfield Springs and Spanish Springs areas as a Planning Commissioner by employing his design knowledge and professionalism.

Mackey’s architecture skills emphasized getting it built and getting it occupied as he helped many construction partners navigate the numerous city and county codes.

A family man to a fault, he established Don Mackey Architect Ltd. in 1981. He has been providing services in the design of apartments, residential retirement centers, sporting and event facilities (Reno Livestock Events Center), commercial office buildings, shopping malls, hotel casinos, industrial office/warehouse buildings, residential subdivisions and private residences.
