B-I-N-G-O for Food Justice!

Date:

Bingo
Round Up for Food Justice, a program that helps provide food for needy people in Reno and the surrounding areas is hosting a bingo night to raise funds for their programs. Grab your friends and come on out to Great Basin Co-Op on Friday, March 6 for a night of bingo, food, laughter, and more.

This is bingo with a twist: pay what you want for you bingo sheets, anywhere from $1 to $10. The game will be played normally and all proceeds will go to Round Up.

You may be wondering what the heck the Round Up for Food Justice program is: they work to provide vouchers for families who have low income and may be on tight budgets, but still want to improve their nutrition and support local farmers.

The whole point is to support fair access to food. By allowing even those on very tight food budgets to support farmers markets and independent producers at the Co-Op, the Justice program is able to make sure the growers and producers of the food are paid a living wage and can support their own families with their livelihood. Money donated to the Round Up is pooled into a fund that helps improve access to healthy food for low-income families.

To qualify, families need to show proof of eligibility for SNAP, WIC, TANF, Medicaid, Free/Reduced Lunch, or other similar programs. The application also requires families to explain how the program will help improve their nutrition.
