Nevada artwork will be displayed at the Legislative Building throughout the 2015 session

The Nevada Arts Council’s Legislative eXhibition Series spotlights the Silver State’s breadth of talent with six exhibits through June featuring different artists working in painting, basketry and mixed media.

The 2015 LXS Series exhibits are as follows:

  • “Pine Spirit,” baskets by Sande Rowan of Carson City, Feb. 2-20
  • “Natural Memorial Realist,” paintings by Max Bunnell of Overton, Feb. 23 to March 13
  • “Building Materials II,” work by Anthony Arevalo of Reno, March 16 through early April
  • “The Observation and Conclusion,” paintings by Joseph Watson of Henderson, April 6-24
  • “White Pine County Artistry,” paintings by Dawn Dot Star of Ely, April 27 to May 15
  • “Forevermore,” mixed media by Su Limbert of Las Vegas, May 18 to June 5

Managed by the NAC’s artist services program, the LXS Gallery space is on the first floor of the Legislative Building, 401 S. Carson St. LXS is open to the public; hours are from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Admission is free.

LXS has been exhibiting Nevada work since 1985 and has featured 137 artists since the program’s inception. Artists for the 2015 series were recommended by a committee that included Nate Clark, visual artist and public art assistant, city of Reno; Bobbie Ann Howell, visual artist and program coordinator, Nevada Humanities; and Jennifer Messina, ceramic artist and member of Ely Art Bank.

The Nevada Arts Council, a division of the Nevada Department of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, is the agency charged with ensuring that state and national funds support cultural activity and encourage participation in the arts throughout Nevada. In addition to providing hundreds of grants to arts- and community-based organizations, schools, artists and local municipalities throughout the state, the NAC coordinates a variety of statewide programs and activities such as the annual Poetry Out Loud recitation competition for high school-aged students, traveling exhibits, artist residencies, workshops and cultural assessments.
