Contract revisions could reduce the number of USBC bowling tournaments in Reno

A special meeting of the Reno City Council was held today at City Hall. Up for discussion and action were revisions (USBC Contract Revisions) to the existing contract between RSCVA, the City of Reno and the United States Bowling Congress (USBC)

Draft changes to the contract included reducing the number of bowling tournaments in Reno from 14 to eight. Originally a contract through 2035, the suggested revisions strike out the years after 2026.

Site fees in the agreement are proposed to rise as well. A city staff briefing explained,

“RSCVA staff and Partner Properties recognize this is a significant increase in site fee payments and a reduction in lineage payments. However, this sets the site fee payments for tournaments hosted in Reno to a more comparable level with what USBC is receiving in other markets.”

According to a statement by the city, the council unanimously approved to continue this item on the condition that RSCVA comes back with a new proposed second amendment that will provide additional clarification of the contract. So the proposed changes are on hold for now.

The next USBC Open Championships in Reno is scheduled for 2016. After the USBC meets in January, city staff will bring confirmation of USBC’s commitment to Reno.
