Stateline man arrested for unlawful contact with a minor

Date:

Reno Police Department Sex Crimes Detectives have been conducting a follow up investigation to several cases that were reported to the Reno Police Department by residence in South Reno. The cases involved a suspicious male who was riding a bicycle in South Reno near Damonte Ranch, and would approach young girls. Through victim descriptions, Reno Police Detectives were able to generate two forensic composite sketches from two separate cases that were reported since January of this year. Both composite sketches had similar characteristics as described by the 8 and 15 year old victims. The sketches were then distributed to local Law Enforcement agencies, schools in South Reno, and postal carriers who deliver mail in the area.

On 10 September, 2014 another report was filed with the Reno Police Department that had similar circumstances as the previous cases, and with the suspect matching the composite sketches. On 16 September, Detectives with the Regional Sex Offender Unit were checking the area’s where the incidents occurred and contacted a Hispanic male who looked like the subject depicted in the composite sketches. The subject was photographed and identified as 58 year old Stateline, NV resident Jose Manuel Rosas-Rojas (DOB 05/31/56).

Since contacting Rosas-Rojas, Reno Police Detectives have re-interviewed all 4 victims from the 3 reported cases involving female juveniles. Through their interviews, Rosas-Rojas was positively identified as the suspect in the 10 September case, and as a possible suspect in the first 2 cases.

On 22 October, 2014 Reno Police Detectives met with Rosas-Rojas and due to the descriptions and statements made by the victims, he was arrested for 1 gross misdemeanor count of Unlawful Contact with a Minor.

Reno Police are asking that parents in South Reno speak with their children about any suspicious encounters with anyone matching Rosas-Rojas photograph and report it to the Reno Police Department Sex Crimes Unit at (775) 657-4601 or Secret Witness at 322-4900, www.secretwitness.com, or text the tip to 847411 (TIP 411) keyword – SW
