Airport directory and map designed to improve aviation travel

Date:

CARSON CITY — A new Nevada Department of Transportation free airport directory and aviation map will provide a boost to Nevada aviation travel planning.

The 169-page Nevada Airport Directory and Pilot’s Guide provides airport maps, as well as communication and contact information, for planning flights to Nevada’s 49 public-use airports. The state Aviation Map is a fold-out, statewide map of airports and related flight information and was printed in partnership with the Nevada Commission on Tourism. The charts and map are meant to aid in flight planning and are not meant to replace FAA aeronautical charts or other official flight navigation publications.

“NDOT is dedicated to providing a top transportation system to enhance Nevadan’s quality of life, and aviation is one fundamental part of that,” NDOT Aviation Planner Matt Furedy explained. “Nevada airports offer a vital way for people, goods and sometimes even vital medical services to move across the state, not to mention providing the freedom for pilots and visitors to tour and explore Nevada. They are vital to our economy, our tourism base and our way of life.”

Economic impact studies have shown that rural Nevada aviation generates $276 million in economic activity annually, with Nevada being the fifth-most-visited state by foreign travelers.

An airport directory for each Nevada airport can be found by clicking the airplane icon on the center right of the nevadadot.com homepage. Free printed copies of the directory and map are also available by calling (775) 888-7353. Comments and feedback on the directory and map are also welcome at the same number.

Through aviation planning, annual airport safety inspections, airport pavement condition reviews, educational programs and more, the Nevada Department of Transportation’s aviation planning section is responsible for helping ensure that Nevada’s general aviation public and private-use airports meet applicable safety requirements and provide a viable, balanced and integrated system of aviation facilities for all users.
