Crawl plans to showcase Reno’s pirate community

Date:

pirate14-posterb-323x500-6417241-1411311In the wake of an economic analysis published by the University of Nevada and commissioned by the City of Reno citing the positive impacts of Reno’s bar crawls, the 5th Annual Pirate Crawl looks to continue the progress. The costumed event will start at Harrah’s plaza at 8 pm on July 12 and continue to 19 other venues featuring drink specials, pirate-themed entertainment and a treasure hunt.

Organizers say this crawl inhabits a special spot in their lineup because it celebrates a community who lives and breathes the theme all year and makes a difference in the community.

The Pirates of Reno, said event producer Ed Adkins of Let’s Do Things, don’t just dress up in eye patches and bandanas, but they also meet weekly to feed the less fortunate and visit nursing homes in character to uplift spirits.

“We love putting this event on,” he said, “and interacting with this group because they bring a lot of good energy to make the crawl not just one of the biggest, but one of the most positive parties we throw all year.”

Those interested in participating are encouraged to purchase a commemorative crawl cup and map starting June 13 at Junkee Clothing Exchange and other retailers or even online at www.piratecrawl.com.

Reno has become the crawl capital in recent years, as holiday celebrations including bar crawls have boosted tourism and pumped money into the local economy while providing entertainment for both locals and tourists alike.

On July 19 Let’s Do Things is also premiering the first ever steampunk-themed crawl in Midtown, in association with High Desert Steam and sponsored by the City of Reno.
