Reno Arch goes blue in honor of National Law Enforcement Memorial Month

Date:

short-logo-gradient-copy-300x132-7322866-8516279On Thursday, May 1, 2014, the downtown Reno Arch will turn blue at 7 p.m. in honor of fallen law enforcement officers in recognition of National Law Enforcement Memorial Month in May. The Arch will remain blue through June 2.

This will be the fourth year the Arch will turn blue thanks to continued support from Reno businessman Eddie Lorton. This year’s event is also supported by the State of Nevada in recognition of National Foster Care Awareness Month, observed in May as well. Donations and funding cover the labor, equipment and installation of the blue bulbs.

The tradition of turning the arch blue is part of Project Blue Light, which began in 1988 when the mother-in-law of a Philadelphia Police Officer put blue lights in her window during the holiday season to honor her deceased son-in-law who was killed in the line of duty. The color blue is symbolic of peace.
