block_n-6771450-5509578Leaders at the Crisis Call Center and various groups on the University of Nevada campus are hosting a screening of the new, award-winning documentary BRAVE MISS WORLD at the theater in the Joe Crowley Student Union at the University of Nevada on April 29th 2014 at 5:30pm to share the story of former Miss World Linor Abargil’s courageous fight for justice.

From the streets of Mumbai to schools across the U.S., Linor’s story speaks to one of the most critical issues of our times. Former Miss World Linor Abargil was the victim of a violent stabbing and rape, just before winning the Miss World crown. Brave Miss World documents her fight to convict her attacker and her own struggle to heal. Linor speaks out about rape from the townships of South Africa, to universities in the U.S. where too often a campus culture turns a deaf ear to reports of rape.

When Linor’s serial rapist comes up for parole, her stability is shattered, and she tracks down his previous victims to convince the parole board to keep him behind bars. Ultimately, Linor’s refusal to be silenced triumphs, in her journey from teenage rape survivor to Miss World to empowered lawyer.

The Crisis Call Center recognizes the importance of igniting conversations about sexual violence and ways in which the Reno/Sparks community can support survivors and promote awareness. To bring a close to Sexual Assault Awareness Month we encourage students and community members to this movie and a panel of experts to discuss how we can make a significant impact in decreasing the prevalence of sexual violence in our community.
