Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District to permit open burning for a limited period Saturday, March 1 through Sunday, March 9

Date:

washoe-150x150-2345662-9621004The Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District (TMFPD) will permit open burning for a limited period of time beginning Saturday, March 1 through Sunday, March 9, 2014.

Residents of the TMFPD will be allowed to burn yard debris only and are required to obtain a new burn permit from their nearest TMFPD fire station on March 1, 2014.  Permits may not be obtained prior to this date.  Burning must conclude by 2 p.m. each day and residents shall adhere to the regulations listed on the burn permit.  Residents are subject to fines should they not follow the regulations of the permit or burn outside the permissible burn times and dates.  Burning of material in a burn barrel is not allowed at any time.

TMFPD cautions all residents to follow the guidelines on the burn permit and pay close attention to the winds and proximity to structures before commencement of burning.  TMFPD encourages all residents to complete all burning within this time, as we may not be able to re-open the season again.  As an alternative, TMFPD does offer its curbside chipping program once the burn ban is reinstated.  Information can be obtained athttp://www.washoecounty.us/tmfpd/chipping.htm.

Prior to burning, residents are required to call the burn line at (775) 326-6000 ext. 3 to verify it is a permissible burn day. If there are predicted high winds or red-flag warnings at any time during the open burning period, burning will be shut down until conditions improve. Residents may call the main TMFPD office at (775) 326-6000 with further questions or visit the website at http://www.washoecounty.us/tmfpd.
