Washoe County Senior Services invites the public, especially seniors and their families, for a “Master Plan for Aging Services Listening Session” Thursday, Nov. 21, at 9 a.m.
Washoe County Senior Services is hosting this “Listening Session” to review the recommendations that have been made of possible projects to include in the Master Plan. These proposals have been developed over the last three months from a community-wide random sample of seniors, 15 focus groups with seniors, their caregivers and service providers, and stakeholders groups.
“We are asking seniors and their families to tell us what is most important.” said Grady Tarbutton, director of Senior Services. “The Master Plan goals and objectives need to reflect the needs of our community, and no one is better qualified to participate than those we are trying to assist. This is the publics’ first look at proposals that could be included in the final Master Plan, which is scheduled to be submitted to the Board of County Commissioners in February 2014”
WHO: The meeting is open to all Washoe County residents, particularly those who are frail, disabled or low income. Those who provide seniors care are also encouraged to attend.

The Washoe County Department of Senior Services mission is to support the independence, dignity and choice of Washoe County’s seniors so they may live safely in their homes as long as possible. The Department is developing a Master Plan for Aging Services to guide our community as it ages as a result of the “Baby Boom” generation. This is a permanent demographic shift that requires new planning and new thinking. In 2010 there were 76,000 people over age 60 in Washoe County; in 2020 there are projected to be 100,000, and by 2030, 130,000.
