CITY OF RENO NEWS RELEASE

reno-logo-4175760-1604595This Tuesday join the city of Reno for the annual holiday tree lighting event, a fun and magical evening featuring the Billinghurst Middle School Choir singing holiday carols and a much anticipated countdown to the official beginning of the holiday season.

The event begins at 5:00 p.m. on the City Plaza (10 N. Virginia St. across from Reno City Hall). The public is invited to enjoy this great tradition featuring carolers, ice skating and a community celebration.

Following the tree lighting, a skating exhibition by the Tahoe Snowflakes and Eldorado’s Ice Fantasy will take place on the Rink on the River and then the rink will open for the public. Skaters can receive a free skate rental by donating a new hat, mittens or scarf to the Salvation Army.

Admission fees for the Rink on the River are:

· Adults/Teens (ages 13-54) = $7.50
· Youth (ages 3-12) = $5.50
· Seniors (55+) = $5.50

A detailed schedule of skating times and a list of admission fees can be found at Reno.gov/RinkontheRiver.

This year the city of Reno started a new tradition with a permanent holiday tree. The 23-foot-tall giant sequoia tree came to Reno from a former wood mill in Camino, Calif.
