Pack senior Burton named one of top 30 guards in nation

image001-9801654-9480945RENO, Nev. –  After being selected as  one of the top 100 players in college basketball last week Nevada senior point guard Deonte Burton has been named one of the top 30 guards according to College Basketball Insider Gary Parrish of CBSSports.com.  There are three Mountain West guards on the list with Burton ranking 21.  New Mexico’s Kendall Williams is 12th and Boise State’s Derrick Marks is 17.

Recently  Burton was named to the preseason Mountain West first-team for the second consecutive year and was also selected to theCollegeSportsMadness.com preseason MW first-team.  A four-year starter he returns for his senior season this year.

The Los Angeles native averaged 16.3 points per game last season and 14.9 points during his career.  Burton earned third-team All-MW honors last season.  He was the 2011 Western Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year and 2012 WAC player of the year.  This past summer Burton earned a tryout with USA Basketball.

Burton has started all 98 games of his career for the Wolf Pack and ranks 10th in school history with 1,459 points.  He is eighth with 121 steals and ninth with 373 assists going into his senior campaign.

The Pack hosts Montana Tech in an exhibition contest on Nov. 4.  The regular season gets underway on Nov. 8 at home with Pacific.
