notch-8-300x300-8311285-7258630MINDEN — The Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park presents its annual exhibit of historic clothing and a concert this week. The exhibit runs from Wednesday, September 16 through Saturday, September 21. The concert, featuring Reno band Jelly Bread, is on Sunday, September 22.

The clothing exhibit includes annual favorites, such as Gertrude Dangberg’s 1898 wedding gown, the oldest Levi’s in Nevada, and the Dangberg sisters’ dresses from the first half of the 20th century. Other highlights of the exhibit include the christening dress first worn in 1866 by Fred Dangberg, Jr., several elaborate, beaded gowns from the 1920s, and women’s dresser sets from the 1890s-1930s.

Tuxedoes, suits and other clothing worn by Fred Dangberg, Jr., from the 1920s-1940s will also be shown, and visitors will see a range of men’s and women’s hats, shoes, jewelry and accessories from throughout the 20th century.

The exhibit is one of the park’s most popular events. Admission is $5 for adults, free for children 16 and younger. The exhibit is self-guided and is open from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. from September 16 through September 21. Reservations are not required.

The clothing is displayed in the historic Dangberg residence, which contains the family’s original furnishings, including a 1916 grand piano that will be played during the event.

Opening the afternoon is Carson-based band Notch 8, playing a mix of Cajun and country in a playful style, with favorites by Johnny Cash, Stray Cats and Elvis Presley. Shotgun Trolley, a Carson Valley band, plays at 2:30, with lead singer Vanessa Littrell performing classic rock hits.

Jelly Bread, a four-piece Reno band, concludes the afternoon at 4 pm with a mix of drum and bass grooves, swampy steel guitar and organ. The band is breaking into the national market with performances at premier venues such as the Strawberry Music Festival and the Reno Rib Cook-off, and was voted the Best Tahoe Band of 2012. The band had been scheduled for the Minden concert in the park last month, which was cancelled due to the heavy smoke from the Yosemite “Rim” fire.

Concert tickets are $10 for adults and free for children 16 and younger. Tickets include all three bands and can be purchased in Gardnerville at Joyce’s Fine Jewelry, Battle Born Wine, Plant It Nursery and The Entertainer, or on-line at www.jubileeconcert2013.eventbrite.com. Ticketholders will also have access to the historic clothing exhibit at no extra charge.

The park is located at 1450 Highway 88, Minden, Nevada, one-half mile south of the Carson Valley Swim Center. More information can be found at www.dangberghomeranch.org or by calling 775-783-9417.
