DANGBERG HOME RANCH NEWS

MINDEN — The historic Dangberg Home Ranch will be the setting as three former Nevada governors reminisce about their time in office. The September 21 event, benefitting the non-profit Friends of Dangberg Home Ranch, will feature a farm-to-table dinner and a panel discussion with former Nevada senator and governor Richard Bryan, as well as former governors Robert List and John Sparks.

Richard Bryan is a Democrat who served at the state level as a public defender, a state assemblyman senator and attorney general. He was Nevada’s governor from 1983-1989 and a U.S. senator for Nevada from 1989-2001.

Robert List is a Republican who served as the district attorney of Carson City, then as attorney general for Nevada before becoming the state’s governor in 1979, serving until 1983.

Governor John Sparks, who served from 1903 until his death in 1908, will be portrayed by Chautauquan Michael Fischer. Sparks was elected governor in 1902, lost a bid for the U.S. Senate in 1904 and was re-elected governor in 1906. He was a member of the Silver-Democrat party. Nicknamed “Honest John,” Sparks was a cattleman and is the namesake for the city of Sparks.

Fischer is the former director of the Nevada Department of Cultural Affairs, and performs Chautauqua portrayals of both Sparks and Carson Valley rancher H. F. Dangberg. The event will be emceed by longtime Nevada broadcaster Brent Boynton, news director at KNPB television.

“It’s wonderful to have these great Nevadans at the park,” said Mark Jensen, the park’s curator. “Their support of the Friends of Dangberg is encouraging as we continue to expand our membership. It should be an excellent evening, and I think both history buffs and those with an interest in Nevada politics should make a point of coming.”

Singer-songwriter and guitarist Beans Sousa will provide the evening’s entertainment. Sousa, the touring guitarist for Lacy J. Dalton, has also recorded and performed with George Harrison, Leon Russell and Bonnie Raitt. Guests will also see the park’s annual exhibition of historic clothing from the Dangberg collection.

The event will take place outdoors at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park, 1450 Highway 88, in Minden. The cost is $85 per person. Reservations are required and can be made online at www.dangbergdinner.eventbrite.com, or interested persons can get more information by contacting Jensen at 775-783-9417.
