Skateboard contest motivates students to make the grade

Date:

gradeMAKING THE GRADE NEWS RELEASE – David White and local partners, Eternal Board Shop, are announcing the second annual “Making the Grade” Scholastic & Amateur Skate Contest to be held on June 22, at Mira Loma Skate Park at 10:00 a.m.

The contest will encourage skateboarders from the ages of 7-18 years old in the northern Nevada school districts to brush up on their skateboarding skills, and dust off their schoolbooks this semester. The participant’s final grades, submitted before the competition, will be factored into their final score of the competition.  Grades must be submitted with an official application.  The higher the GPA, the higher the final score.

Participants of the skate contest will be separated into three different age groups with a boys and girls division. Each first place winner will receive a week-long trip to Lake Tahoe’s Woodward Skate Camp. Judges include Steve “O” Brockway, from World Cup Skateboarding. New to this year’s event is an open skate for ages 18 and up. Open skate contestants will be competing for swag prize packs.

Lake Tahoe’s Woodward Skate Camp is a program in the Tahoe area that is dedicated to helping camp goers acquire new skills, balance and confidence in the sport, and their lives. Each winner will be placed in a program that caters to their age and ability level, giving campers the potential to improve their core skills within a week’s time.
