Nevada Guard set to commemorate Flag Day, Army birthday

CARSON CITY – Everyone is invited to join the United States Armed Forces as it recognizes and pays homage to the United States’ flag and celebrates the U.S. Army’s birthday during the annual Nevada National Guard Flag Day Ceremony set for Friday, June 14, at 10 a.m., in the Nevada Capitol Assembly Chambers in Carson City. The ceremony will mark the 238th birthday of the U.S. Army.

Command Sgt. Maj. Daryl Keithley is set to deliver the Army’s birthday message. He has served as Nevada’s state command sergeant major since August 2009 and is responsible for advising the adjutant general on all Nevada Army Guard enlisted affairs. Since Sept. 11, 2001, Keithley has completed multiple deployments in support of Operations Iraqi and Enduring Freedom.

Master Sgt. Harry Schroeder of the 757th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion is set to give the Flag Day address. He recently served as the first sergeant for the 593rd Transportation Company during its nine-month deployment to Afghanistan.

The event is free and open to the public.
