2012-13 Mountain West Scholar-Athlete Awards announced

image001-8501363-9690998COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Mountain West announced its 2012-13 Scholar-Athlete Award recipients today, with 51 University of Nevada student-athletes earning accolades.

The Wolf Pack swimming and diving team led the way with 11 athletes selected, followed closely by the Rifle squad with eight honorees. Nevada Baseball (5), Women’s Basketball (3), Football (3), Men’s Golf (2), Women’s Golf (3), Softball (2), Men’s Tennis (2) and Women’s Volleyball (3) also had multiple honorees. The Nevada Cross Country/Track and Field teams came in with nine total student-athletes, made up of five that earned honors for their participation in events during the Fall and four that were credited for their participation in Spring events.

A league-record 623 student-athletes were honored, including 54 individuals who have achieved a 4.00 or higher cumulative grade point average over two or more terms, and 63 student-athletes who were recognized in multiple sports. The 623 honorees surpass the previous Conference high of 581 in 2010-11.

The MW Scholar-Athlete Award is one of the highest academic honors bestowed by the Conference. To be eligible for selection, student-athletes must have completed at least two academic terms at the member institution, while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or better, and have participated in varsity competition in an NCAA-sponsored sport.

Swimming and Diving
Lauren Allen, Jocelin Drennan, Michelle Forman, Misha Fotoohi, Erin Fuss, Michelle Hahl, Nicole Longland, Kaelie Reviglio, Chavisa Thaveesupsoonthorn, Erika Twenge and Luiza Vieira.

Rifle
Zachary Duncan, Chelsie Hata, Carmen Luke, Elsa Ochsner, Greta Ochsner, Kaitlin Olivia Pennell, Jessica Ruxton and Niki Silveria.

Baseball
Lance Berringer, Scott Kaplan, Brooks Klein, Shaun Mize and Jamison Rowe.

Women’s Basketball
Aja Johnson, Faith Lois and Mimi Mungedi.

Football
Devin Combs, Jordan Dobrich and Nathan Lytle.

Men’s Golf
Christopher Carson and Andrew Cornella.

Women’s Golf
Tess Jones, Carly Simpson and Bethany Wurster.
