Truckee Meadows flood study draft documents now available for public review

Image by Laurel Busch.SACRAMENTO – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District has released the draft general re-evaluation report and draft environmental impact statement for the Truckee Meadows flood control project for public review, officially opening the 45-day public comment period.

The proposed project would implement flood risk management features to reduce flood damage in the Truckee Meadows reach along the Truckee River, avoid or minimize adverse impacts on existing habitats and sensitive species and increase recreational opportunities along the Truckee River between Highway 395 and Vista.

The draft documents are published on the Sacramento District’s website at http://www.spk.usace.army.mil/Media/USACEProjectPublicNotices.aspx and will be made available for review at five local libraries including Reno Downtown Library, Sparks Branch Library, Fernley Branch Library, Storey County Public Library and the Pyramid Lake Community Library. Printed or CD copies of the reports are available upon request.

The official 45-day public comment period closes July 7. The final documents are expected to be released in late fall.

Written comments can be submitted by mail or email to the addresses listed on page 7 of the draft environmental report. Corps representatives will be available to discuss the status of the project, the draft documents and accept public comments during public meetings June 12 and 19.
