The Wilbur D. May Arboretum and Botanical Garden has been open for nearly 27 years, making it one of Reno’s oldest public gardens. Inside Rancho San Rafael Regional Park, the arboretum is home to 13 acres of diverse gardens and groves linked by walking trails. Thousands of visitors enjoy the free and open space each year.

Get a behind the scenes look at this community treasure on National Public Gardens Day. Former Arboretum Director Dr. Ed Kleiner will give a free walking tour of the park. Learn the history behind the gardens and get to know some of the unique plants. Bring a camera, and don’t forget to wear walking or hiking shoes!

National Public Gardens Day is an annual celebration to raise awareness of the important role botanical gardens and arboreta play in promoting environmental stewardship, plant and water conservation, green spaces and education in communities nationwide.

Within Rancho San Rafael Regional Park, the Wilbur D. May Center is managed by the Washoe County Community Services Department and continues to receive generous support from the Wilbur May Foundation.
