MOANA NURSERY NEWS RELEASE

Scott & Christie GescheiderMoana Nursery again joined the ranks of the horticulture industry’s top independent garden centers when it was named both one of Today’s Garden Center’s Revolutionary 100 – – for the fifth straight year — and again was an IGC Retailer’s Visionary Independent Garden Center 100 Retailer.

The Revolutionary 100 program surveys garden center owners and managers and culminates in a listing of the 100 most revolutionary garden centers in the nation from the thousands of participants. The survey includes all independent garden centers, large and small, and is based on leadership, innovation, not on size or revenue. The Visionary 100 program is an award with different criteria; this award is given for influence, leadership and size.

“We are honored to make this Revolutionary 100 list for five years in a row,” says owner Christie Gescheider. “One of the major benefits of this award is the opportunity to network with other superior garden centers from around the country in Atlanta where we shared new ideas and visited the country’s largest market for new home and garden merchandise.”

“Scott Gescheider (general manager of landscape services) and I returned from the four day trip invigorated and excited to share with our customers all that we learned plus the new products we discovered. One of the most significant things we returned home with was an intensive training course based on customer service, core values, product knowledge and mentors. All of our year round teammates have finished the training; seasonal and new teammates are in the process of completing their training. Our goal is to greatly improve our customers’ interactions with Moana Nursery.”

Garden center owners and managers across the United States fill out an extensive online questionnaire covering topics such as customer and community service, management philosophy, marketing, use of technology, purchasing and profitability. The entrants are ranked according to a point system, and the top 100 top entries make the prestigious list.

“The garden centers that made this year’s list are an exceptional group of forward-thinking independent retailers who survived a tough economy, which helps their community,” says Today’s Garden Center Editor Carol Miller. “We are proud to call them revolutionary.”

Moana Nursery was also proudly included in the IGC Retailer‘s Visionary IGC 100 Retailers list for the second year in row. This honor recognizes the largest and most influential garden centers in America. These are the leaders in what is new and exciting in the garden and landscape world.

Since 1967, locally owned Moana Nursery has been serving the landscape and gardening needs of northern Nevada and the high desert from three locations in Reno/Sparks: 1100 West Moana Lane, 11301 south Virginia Street, and 7655 Pyramid Highway. Each full-service garden center is home to a Wild Birds Unlimited store — which is part of the original and largest franchise of backyard bird feeding and nature specialty stores. Moana Nursery also specializes in both residential and commercial landscape design and installation as well as an interior plant service which provides installation, maintenance and rentals.

More information on the Revolutionary 100, including the complete listing, can be found in the January issue of Today’s Garden Center magazine and at www.Revolutionary100.com.
