Leprechaun Chasers benefit Discovery Museum

Date:

2013 Leprechaun Chase 5K Run/WalkDISCOVERY MUSEUM NEWS RELEASE – The inaugural Leprechaun Chase, a 5k run/walk held on Sunday, March 17, raised $5,800 for the Terry Lee Wells Nevada Discovery Museum (The Discovery).

“Turnout for the race was much larger than we expected for a first-year event,” said Eric Lerude, president of Race178. “Our goal for the race was to highlight the Midtown and Wells Avenue districts of Reno and benefit one of Reno’s cultural treasures, The Discovery.”

Race178, who owns and organizes the Leprechaun Chase, made a $5,000 contribution to The Discovery—$1 for each of the 1,300 runners and walkers the leprechaun, who started at the back of the pack, passed during the race, plus an additional donation of $3,700. Ceol, an Irish pub located in the Midtown district, donated $800.

“The Discovery is extremely grateful to Race178 for creating this new event to help promote The Discovery, and to Ceol for their donation,” said Mary O’Brien, development director for The Discovery. “As a not for profit organization, the museum relies heavily on the generosity of donors and the community to remain a viable educational resource.”
