Northern Nevada JDRF elects 2013 board

On July 1, the Northern Nevada Branch of JDRF inducted its 2013 Board of Directors, welcoming 11 new members and the branch’s first-ever female president, Maryann Zucker. A founding board member, Zucker has two adult children with Type 1 Diabetes. JDRF Northern Nevada remains committed to its goal to find a cure for diabetes and, since its inception, has raised more than $10 million for diabetes research.

“We are very excited about the incredible talent we have this year on our board of directors,” said Maryann Zucker, president of the Northern Nevada Branch of JDRF. “We have a lot of great events this year aimed to raise funds for diabetes research and our board is absolutely committed to continue on our mission to find a cure.”

New board members include Chris Barrett of Barrett Strategies, Lisa Ferro, Garrett Gordon of Lewis & Roca, Dean Hanson of CommRow, Grant Markham, Justin Moscove of the Flowing Tide Pubs, Becky Russell of Wells Fargo, Chris Schultz of Micrometl, Tara Trovato of R&R Partners, Patrick Turner of the Nevada Discovery Museum and Barbara Wallace of Delphi Asset Management.

Returning to the board of directors are Be-Be Adams of Barrick Gold, Rick Alonso of Wells Fargo Advisors, Dr. Leslie Baker, Judy Lynn Charles, Scott Christy of the Christy Group, Jill Cook of Renown Health, Rod Cooper of Granite Construction Company, Allyson Edgington, Wendy Ernaut, Marisa Francovich of The Grill at Quail Corners, Rich Green of New York Life, Fong Menante, Lisa Menante, Lesley Miller of Kaempfer Crowell Renshaw & Fiorentino, Shannon Mullen of Washoe County School District, Mike Nevis of NAI Alliance, Justin Piper of The Reno Aces, Christi Quatro of The Chamber, Tom Seeliger of Morgan Stanley Smith Barney, Janet Smagala of Gaming Capitol Group, Tania Violette of First Independent Bank and Dr. David White of David White Family Dentistry.

The advisory board includes Dr. Josh Bardin, Peggy Bohn, Calder Chism, Pete Copeland, Shane Gorman, Robb Huleva, Scott Huntley, Samatha Ladich, Anne Lichty, Ron Milligan, John Mudge, Joel Muller, Robert Olmer, Dr. Arnie Pitts, Linda Rowe, Mike Smart and Theresa Volkmann.

JDRF exists as the largest funder of diabetes research in the world and the Northern Nevada Branch has already begun its work to plan another successful Walk to Cure Diabetes set for October 14. Furthermore, they will soon begin work on their next Vision Gala which will be held in April 2013.

“The Vision Gala is the largest and, undisputedly, the top fundraising gala of its kind in northern Nevada and we are working to make next year’s event the best yet,” said Zucker. “Our Walk is also an incredibly inspiring event that, each year, raises significant funds to support diabetes research and we look forward to seeing the community at the event this October.”
