KOLO TV viewers are helping Washoe County’s Department of Senior Services provide fans to cool local seniors by donating new electric fans for distribution to seniors in need.
Everyone who wants to help seniors survive the summer heat is encouraged to join the KOLO “Fan Club” by dropping off new fans at the Washoe County Senior Services Center in Reno at 9th and Sutro Streets. Drop off or pick up between 9 a.m.and 3:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.
“Last year, KOLO Fan Club members helped out over 200 local seniors who did not have a way to beat the heat,” Washoe County Senior Services Director Grady Tarbutton said. “Recipients are seniors age 60 and over who do not have air conditioning to help keep them comfortable during the hottest time of the summer months.”
Only donations of new fans in the box will be accepted. To qualify for a fan, recipients must be 60 years of age or older. Seniors without air conditioning and those who have not previously participated in the program are a priority. For more information, contact (775) 328-2575.
The Mission of Washoe County Senior Services is to offer opportunities for the community’s older adults to maintain dignity, to maintain independence and to enhance the quality of their lives through the provision of direct services in a quality, cost-effective manner.
