Date:

SUBMITTED NEWS RELEASE

Vicki Escarra, president and CEO of Feeding America, the nation’s leading domestic hunger-relief charity, will speak at this month’s WIN Breakfast meeting, sponsored by Legacy Christian School, on Friday, May 25, at the Peppermill Hotel & Casino at 7 a.m. Feeding America provides food to Americans in need through a network of more than 200 food banks, including the Food Bank of Northern Nevada.

Since her appointment as president and CEO in 2006, Escarra has built Feeding America into a $1.2 billion organization, leading the organization through the most significant period of advancement in its three-decade history. Under Escarra’s leadership, Feeding America has expanded the number of people served from 25 million to 37 million and grown the amount of annually distributed pounds of food and grocery products from two billion to more than three billion.

She has overseen the development of the national brand to become Feeding America and assisted with a 144 percent growth in fundraising. Escarra was vital to the establishment of the network’s first collaborative fundraising effort, the Campaign for a Hunger-Free America; and in two years, Campaign for a Hunger-Free America achieved 45 percent of its 5-year, $500 million goal.

In 2010 and 2011, Escarra was named to The NonProfit Times’ Power and Influence Top 50. Under her leadership, Feeding America has garnered unprecedented attention from the media, celebrities, and members of Congress to become what Advertising Age referred to as “the go-to cause for marketers.”

Aside from her work with Feeding America, Escarra is active within her community as she serves on many boards such as, the Sesame Workshop Advisory Board on Food Insecurity, as well as the boards of HealthNet, the Congressional Hunger Center, The Chicago Network, the Committee of 200, and the Roosevelt University Board of Regents. She has also served the city of Atlanta as Chair of the Board of Directors and Executive Committee for the Atlanta Convention and Visitor’s Bureau and in partnership with Mayor Shirley Franklin on the Brand Atlanta Campaign.
