Renown Institute for Cancer announces Barry Hamp as the new vice president and Dr. James Harris as the new medical director.

Barry Hamp has been hired as vice president of the Renown Institute for Cancer. In his role Hamp will be responsible for enhancing the patient experience by providing a patient-friendly, positive environment; eliminating barriers and implementing programs that will help employees bring the best possible medicine to the patients; bringing the latest in equipment to the best facility possible and eliminating process steps that patients do not find valuable.

Hamp has extensive senior management experience in the healthcare field, most recently as Senior Vice President of the Cancer Treatment Centers of America in Philadelphia, Pa. and Phoenix, Ariz. for the past five years.

Hamp is a former US Navy Hospital Corpsman and is a current member of the American College of Healthcare Executives, Rotary International, the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks and the American Legion.

James Harris, M.D., FACS

Board-certified by the American Board of Surgery, James B. Harris, M.D., FACS, is the new medical director for Renown Institute for Cancer.

Dr. Harris received his medical doctorate from Wake Forest School of Medicine. He completed his internship and residency in general surgery at the University of Southern California and completed a fellowship in surgical oncology at City of Hope an NCI designated hospital.

Dr. Harris is affiliated with the Reno-based Western Surgical Group and is a member of the Washoe County Medical Society, American College of Surgeons, Society of Graduate Surgeons and the state of California and Nevada medical associations. He also has many years of experience as a Cancer Liaison to the American College of Surgeons.  Dr. Harris has practiced general, trauma and oncologic surgery for 23 years.

Dr. Harris is a third generation surgeon (his grandfather, father and he all practiced in Sacramento, California). He lives in Reno with his wife Dr. Karin Klove (a general surgeon). They have two sons at Galena High School. They are very active in the community supporting their sons in the Reno Youth Jazz Orchestra, Galena tennis team, Galena bands and sailing.
