SUBMITTED NEWS RELEASE

This upcoming Veteran’s Day weekend, University of Nevada Reno will be hosting the Art of Living Course, which is a 24 hour workshop focused on breathing, meditation and yoga. The course starts on Thursday, Nov. 10 and ends on Monday, Nov. 14. The purpose of this course is to offer wisdom, breathing techniques and other methods that will allow students enrolled in the course to lead happier and healthier lives.

On Thursday, Friday and Monday the course will be held from 6-10pm and from 12-6pm on Saturday and Sunday in the Harry Reid Engineering Lab Conference Room. With finals quickly approaching, students can learn certain breathing techniques that will provide them with more energy while relaxing the body and mind. Yoga and stress-relieving stretches will be a component of the course along with strategies to improve relationships and cope with negative emotions. The cost of the course is $250 but only $125 for students, seniors, and those who have taken the course before.

The intention of the course is for students to leave feeling more mindful and fulfilled within their lives. Jayne Archer, a local coordinator and teacher-volunteer for the Art of Living firmly believes in the benefits of this course.

“It’s a breath of fresh air,” Archer said. “It creates a space for people from all backgrounds, all religions, all walks of life to come together and experience silence and peace.”

The course offers much more than just stress relief and newfound energy; students are to leave the course with increased eagerness for life and feel a stronger sense of self that will hopefully benefit memory, performance and creativity.

The Art of Living is a worldwide non-profit organization that was founded by Sri Sri Ravi Shankar in 1981. The Art of Living hosts stress-reducing workshops that are based on Sri Sri Ravi Shankar’s ideas of peace and that in order to achieve world peace, individuals must possess stress free minds and non-violent attitudes. The stress reducing workshops focus upon breathing techniques, meditation and yoga. Along with these workshops, the Art of Living Foundation is heavily involved in humanitarian projects and is home to one of the largest volunteer based groups in the world.
