Date:

ST. MARY’S MEDIA STATEMENT

Saint Mary’s Regional Medical Center and its affiliated medical facilities received a total of 28 patients transported from the site of the Reno Air Races disaster Friday, Sept. 16. Fourteen of these patients were admitted to Saint Mary’s hospital. Their conditions are as follows:

  • 2 patients are in critical condition.
  • 7 patients are in serious condition.
  • 5 patients are in fair condition.
  • 12 patients were treated and released from Emergency Department Friday.
  • A total of 26 patients were either seen in Saint Mary’s Regional Medical Center’s Emergency Department or admitted to the hospital.
  • In addition, two patients were seen at another location, Saint Mary’s Medical Group’s Urgent Care center in south Reno. These patients were also treated and released.

Given the nature of the accident, Saint Mary’s is treating injuries due to both blunt force and penetrating trauma. Common injuries being treated at the hospital include fractures of the legs, arms, ribs and fingers, head injuries, amputations, abrasions, lacerations and chemical burns. Due to U.S. HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) regulations prohibiting hospitals from identifying patients, no further specifics on the nature and type of these injuries will be given.

At this point, Saint Mary’s does not plan to release additional information over the weekend unless patient conditions change. No interview requests are being accepted at this time. For updates, please call (775) 770-3555 for a recorded message or see @StMarysReno on Twitter.

Our deepest condolences go to the families, friends, community members and Reno Air Races staff who have been affected by this tragic accident. We have been deeply touched by the community support and the dedication from our physicians, nurses and staff. Our No. 1 priority is the health and safety of our patients, and we are working diligently to care for these patients.

For those seeking information on missing persons, please call 775-337-5800 or 2-1-1.
