Tractors and Truffles brings top chefs to Fallon

Date:

SUBMITTED NEWS RELEASE

FALLON, Nev. (August, 2011) — Local food, local wine, top chefs and a renowned singer/songwriter will make Fallon’s Tractors and Truffles event the culinary cap to the summer season.

The October 15 event is the City of Fallon’s way to showcase two of its greatest assets — thriving agriculture and a burgeoning arts scene.

Special guest chef of Honor John Ash, a best-selling author and former Food Network host known for pioneering fresh, local and seasonal food, will headline Tractors and Truffles’ three-chef culinary team. Ash has penned three award-winning books and his forward-thinking culinary approach has earned him the nickname of “Father of Wine Country Cuisine.”

Fallon’s own Steve Hernandez, chef at The Slanted Porch, and Cordon Blue chef and ice sculptor Mark Davis will join Ash in leading farm tours and cooking demonstrations, as well as crafting a four-course gourmet dinner out of ingredients straight from the farm.

Lunch will be hosted at Lattin Farms, a family-owned, fifth-generation Fallon farm known for producing vine-ripened fruit and crisp, flavorful produce.

Churchill Vineyards, one of the nation’s most unique winemakers, will host a wine-tasting event, where Tractors and Truffles guests will be able to sample the subtle flavors and rich body of award-winning wines grown in the cool nights and warm days of Fallon’s high-desert climate. Churchill Vineyards produces the only wine that is grown, aged and bottled in Nevada.

The evening will end with a performance by nationally acclaimed folk singer and songwriter Susan Werner.

Werner’s artful songwriting has earned her high praise across the country, including the Chicago Tribune calling her “the most innovative songwriter working today” and National Public Radio voting her 2007 release the “Top Folk Album of the Year.”

Werner will mix old and new folk tunes in an engaging live performance that mixes music with her trademark humor.

Tractors and Truffles guests will have a change to meet and talk with Susan Werner before the concert.

Tractors and Truffles is a benefit for Fallon’s Mayor’s Youth Fund, a fund consisting entirely of private donations dedicated to helping less fortunate kids in the Fallon community through sports, cultural and educational opportunities.
